HuddleUp includes built-in team messaging so you don’t have to rely on group texts or separate chat apps.
How Team Chat Works
Each team has a dedicated chat channel powered by Stream Chat. All coaches and parents on the team can see and send messages — keeping team communication in one place.
Accessing Chat
- Go to the Chats tab in the bottom navigation
- Select your team channel
- Type your message and send
What you see depends on your role:
- Parents see only the channels for teams their children are on
- Coaches see channels for all teams they manage
- Admins have visibility into all channels across their organization
Sending Messages
- Type a message and tap send
- React to messages with emoji reactions (long-press on any message)
- Typing indicators show when someone is composing a message
Slash Commands
HuddleUp includes custom slash commands for common team coordination. Type these in any team chat:
| Command | What It Does |
|---|
/carpool | Coordinate rides to games and practices |
/snack | Organize snack duty rotation |
/poll | Create a quick poll for the team to vote on |
/cheer | Send a team cheer or encouragement |
Slash commands are great for recurring coordination. Use /snack at the start of the season to set up a rotation, or /carpool before away games to organize rides.
Who Can Message
- Coaches can message the entire team
- Parents can participate in team chat
- All messages are visible to everyone in the channel
Managing Chat (Admins & Coaches)
Coaches and admins have additional controls:
- Enable/disable chat — Toggle team messaging on or off per team (in team settings or during team creation)
- Visibility — Admins can see all team channels in their organization
- Content monitoring — Review conversations to ensure appropriate communication
To toggle chat for a team:
- Go to the Team page
- Tap Team Settings
- Toggle Team Messaging on or off
Push Notifications
Parents and coaches receive push notifications for new chat messages. To manage chat notification settings:
- Go to Settings > Notifications
- Toggle team message notifications on or off
- You can customize notification settings per team
See Notifications for all notification options.
Tips
- Use messaging for quick updates that don’t warrant a full event change
- Important schedule changes should still be made via event edits (which trigger push notifications to all families)
- Keep the chat friendly and on-topic — it’s visible to all team parents
